bloody essay

You know, i've spent five days "working" on my essay (as well as buying a new coat, seeing bridget jones 2, going to a friends' birthday party, having one too many cups of hot drinks with my course friends in coffee revolution talking about how much work we have and going to the gym) and i've only written 2,500 words.

Holy crap.

and it's the worst 2,500 words ever. the word limit is 3,500 and the politics department are being complete facists this year, meaning that if i'm as much as ONE word over the limit, i'll have TEN, yes, dix, 10, TEN marks taken off my overall mark. anyway, this means that i have to try and cramm all the things that i need to say in very few words. Good. But i'm quite a tight essay writer as it is, and i can barely squeeze in as much analysis as i'd like to. Not good.

My problem is that i'm not panicking yet. Panic seems to make me do work. I have to get this one done in order to get on with all my other essays (all due in now in a week, two essays that i've done no reading for, oh dear) but i'm not panicing. I tried to MAKE myself panic today by writing down all the things that i had to get done in the next week, and doing a timetable and all to make me see how little time i have, but all it did was make me think, yeah, i can do it all.

Must snap out of first year frame of mind. I'm final year now.

and this is clearly procrastination. Must get back, i've had an inspirational idea now about war being a sphere of acheivement.

Thinking about that photo below....

Actually, that was quite a funny night. I'd spent the day doing Model UN (it's where you pretend that you are a UN delegate, would have been more fun if it wasn't for all the bloody law students....) and had somehow forgotton to eat. Not a good idea before a party. So when I came home, I ate the only thing that I had in my cupboards - homemade (by yours truly) lentil soup and a slice of stale bread. Plus, I'd had a nightmarish exam the day before, meaning that i had finished my January exams.

Shilpa and Holly made me all the drinks that night.... and they've always been generous with the portions.

So, no excuse... but i got completly and utterly rat arsed. and did all sorts of things that were hysterical, like falling into the kitchen bin and passing out at my own houseparty (yet still recovering about two hours before it ended).

I really want another houseparty. When i've finished those nightmare essays. Bet my housemates don't let me. Meanies.

Tablecloth skirts.

I think everyone has seen this one. This is me at my houseparty after my january exams in my second year. i was just seeing if i'm at all capable of doing this picture fangmangly thing. Posted by Hello

wow! look at this!

Can't write much.... supposed to be writing an essay. sigh. Anyway - would like to draw everyone's attention to the list of selected websites, gradually, I'll get all my favourites up there. And i'll write a post about my birthday and link to photos so everyone can view and print off etc what they want.

For now, enjoy this! http://disney.go.com/princess/html/main_iframe.html

You can find out what princess you are! I'm Jasmine apparently. Cool.

It's my birthday!!!!!

and there's SNOW!!!!!!! Next door have built a huge snowman!

jumps around in excitement.

I don't feel any older or more responsible. Never mind.

I'm going to go back to bed. One's advancing years means that one requires lots of rest.

Because it's tuesday

I have nothing of note to post. Apart from the fact that i've painted my toenails brown, in order to match my shoes that i'm going to wear for my 21st.

Ok, here's a thought. Does turning 21 mean that i'm going to be a twenty-something? Is that scary? Do i start saying that "i'm in my early 20s" or am i still young enough to say my age? Discuss.

Interweb Skills

mine are quite crap really. But i managed to work out the code for doing links. I'm very proud of myself. When i get back to sheffers, i'll put in all my favourites (well, not all of them, but some of them)

I may even be able to advance to pictures one day.

I had a nightmare trip back home. the bus got managled in traffic Sheffers, so i missed my train to Doncaster.... and as i was getting my ticket the next one went. so i had to wait half an hour for the next train. All fine, well and good, except that when i got to Doncaster, i realised that the next train to Peterbourgh was not for another hour, so i had to get a train to Grantham, and change there for Peterbourgh (after waiting half an hour of course in the freezing cold, WHY does Grantham not have a waiting ROOM??!). Got to Peterbourgh feeling ever so slightly ill, only to find that all the London trains stopping at St Neots were CANCELLED for an hour (supposed to leave every 20 mins? bollocks). Anyway, finally made it to a train, only to find that at St Neots, the fucking doors wouldn't open!!! This is what happens when WAGON figures that it's ok to put on trains that are older than my mother. Dad had to pick me up in Sandy.

I left Sheffield at 3pm. I arrived home at 8:30pm.

Too tramatic.

more procrastination

I've acheived nothing today. Absolutly nothing.

Day started with me reading a journal article and disagreeing with every single thing in it, then realised that the said article was written by a guy who is the postgraduate director of a course that I've applied for. At least i'll have something to say in the interview if i have one.

then i realised that i have to come up with a research proposal for a few of the course i want to apply for. It's laughable, i haven't even figured out what i want to do yet for my undergraduate dissertation yet i'm trying to think about what i'm going to do for my thesis three years down the line. Realised that i have no idea what a research proposal actually involves, so after about an hour talking to a tutor I had last year (she was very helpful actually) i know that it involves - get this - "semi structured elite interviews." I just LOVE that phrase and thought i'd share it with you.

Stuff and more stuff - then i had a groupwork meeting. We changed our title again! (oooh, only for about the sixth time....) I should have kept an eye on the clock - I let the meeting go on for far too long! Got ballet tonight... and so much seminar prep. Bloody 9ams. thank god it's reading week for history, it means that I only have one 9am this week.

Really must work out what i'm going to do with this blog. I can't just moan about how i appear to do nothing. Any ideas?

My day n' Stuff.

you know, i'd quite like to do a list of links. if i could ever work out how do that. This is clearly going to be a means of procrastination, i'm supposed to be ploughing through my shitloads of reading or at least filling in one of my application forms. Oh no, i'm arsing around with something that i don't need and that i barely know how to work.

Er, right. So. Today. I went to uni after watching a crappy daytime TV show called "beat the burgler" where they get someone to break into your house to show you what kind of things you can do. It was so scary that i went round the house checking the windows and doors. I nearly died when i realised that the back door was unlocked, and probably has been for about four days, which is the last time anyone in my house paid a visit to the bins. Memo to self: must not watch scary TV shows first thing in the morning. Right, and went to the library next. which was gripping as usual, i was just reading about private security. For hours. Had lunch. Followed by a lecture on International Political Theory. I'm such a geek cos i enjoy this. Today's one was all about post positivism - really much more interesting than it sounds. Lecturer did lots of cool powerpoint (he's clearly been on an advanced powerpoint course). Then i spent ages out on the concorse (it's the big open space outside the Union under a massive bridge) with a few course friends moaning about the weather (it's depressing, very depressing.... it's SO DARK AND COLD) and stuff, then we all reaslised that we were all going to the library anyway. So we carried on talking in the library. Then i went to a Welfare committee meeting. Which was very cool. We're going to put a giant red ribbon round the university arts tower (it's like, only the biggest building in Sheffield) for World Aids Day, and we got very excited about doing a santa's grotto for the university nursery, it's going to be all sparkly and stuff and there's of course, the upcoming Stuff't Olives! I'm trying to come up with something abso-blimmin-lootly amazing for "Challenging Stigma" (stigma about disabled people that is) which is next semester (ok, so ages off) and i can't seem to get off the idea of doing a shock campaign combined with getting as manay societies thinking about the issues - like getting the film unit to do films about disabled people, like getting the debate society doing a debate etc etc etc. Might be the best way to do it. Walked alllllllll the way up my great big hill home and popped over to the girls' house for a bit and cooked my tea. Watched Eastenders and thought about how much work i have to do, but no, instead i've been arsing around. My room is *very* tidy.

and oh my god how did it get so late? It's 20 past 12!!!! I'm way to old to stay up! (yeah, walking sticks at the ready!)

Hummm

I'm intrigued. Not sure how all this works. and have no idea what the hell i'm going to even use this for.
